Ringing Endorsements

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Well, like some bad scene from “Weekend at Bernie’s” the Cuban Communist Party has propped up Castro to bring the first substantal endorsement of the much bandied about Clinton-Obama ticket. And why not? I can’t think of a better communist ticket than these two hard-core leftists with socialist agendas.

I imagine that Vladimir Putin will be bringing his endorsement out shortly in the form of a “Hillary/Obama in ‘08″ tattoo on his chest.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao could help out the ticket by selling “Clinton/Obama: Oh Mama!” bumper stickers and maybe even some bobbleheads, although keep them away from the children!

So what should we glean from the Castro endorsement? Well, what is his idea of a good president? Why Jimmy Carter of course! Let’s see, what did Jimmy Carter accomplish?

1) Enabled the Islamic Revolution.
2) Gave away the Panama Canal.
3) Allowed the spread of communism in the Western Hemisphere, a direct violation of the Monroe Doctrine (look it up).
4) Helped set up the communist Sandinista government in Nicaragua.
5) On the US economc front he oversaw stagflation, unemployment, and, of course, malaise. The malaise came from this stunningly optimistic statement: “I think it’s inevitable that there will be a lower standard of living than what everybody had always anticipateded. The only trend is downward. But it’s impossible to get people to face up to this.” Maybe because it wasn’t true Jimmy!
6) Speaking of motivating words (at least to the Communists), chew on these for awhile: He scolded Americans for having an “inordinate fear” of Communism and explained that Russia would “continue to push for communism throughout the world and to probe for possibilities for expansion of their system, which I think is a legitimate purpose for them.”

Wow, talk about persuading the proletariat!

I will be interested in how Clinton and Obama react to this endorsement, that is if they are actually asked about it.

Keep breathing!

Rhino vs RINO

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

rhino

noun
massive powerful herbivorous odd-toed ungulate of southeast Asia and Africa having very thick skin and one or two horns on the snout.

RINO

noun
passive weak thumb-sucking knock-kneed neophyte of the liberal wing of the Republican party having very thin skin and no more than one or two vertebrae in the spine.

I’m beginning to think we need to change the GOP mascot from an elephant to a RINO, but this animal would be terribly sway-backed, for the lack of a spine.

Our eldest Senate RINO and senior “Republican” on the Senate Armed Services Committee thinks the President needs to “announce that on [September] the 15th that in consultations with our senior military commanders he’s decided to initiate the first step of the withdrawal of our forces”. Who pray tell am I speaking of? None other than the Virginia octagenarian John Warner, one of the infamous Seven Dwarves, the sad sack RINO half of the Gang of 14 who plunged a dagger deep into the back of then Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist.

Well Senator Warner let me be one of the first to congratulate you for not only cutting the legs out from under General David Petraeus, but also for making it on the Al-Jazeera English - Front Page! And I must say Senator Warner your comments are playing well in the Arab world, playing that is into the belief that we as a country no longer are capable of winning a war.

Check out this gem of a comment from Mishmish of Egypt: “Had the US foreign policy makers read history, they would not get involved in any war after Vietnam”

You know what’s really sad about that comment? There is a lot of truth in that because looking at the past conduct of the American Congress and its lack of courage and willingness to undermine not only our Commander-in-Chief, but also our national security, we should have thought more than twice about entering this war. With the current crop of RINOs we have serving in the Congress, I will seriously consider any further military action until they are collecting their undeserved pension. (Don’t even get me started on that!)

May I encourage you to email Senator Warner to express your opinion on his performance today, or better yet, give him a call! (202) 224-2023

And please be nice!

Train A Child

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

King Solomon wrote in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Solomon would know because he benefitted from a godly father in King David. This young child is starting off on the right foot.

WARNING: If you are allergic to precious, you better not watch this!

And that my friends is what the ACLU and Americans United for the Separation of Church and State say we must never teach our children in school. The Lord only knows where that might end up.

Samuel Adams Quote

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Now ask most legal drinking age Americans today who Samuel Adams was, they will probably tell you he was the first successful American brewmaster. I may be wrong, but try your own social experiment and see what you discover. I’d be interested in hearing the results.

Samuel Adams was actually an excellent politician, an unsuccessful brewer, and a poor businessman. He was the older cousin of the more famous 1st US Vice-President and the 2nd US President John Adams. We have cousin Sam to thank for the Continental Congress, where he distinguished himself as one of America’s greatest orators and a strong voice for independence. He was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and eventually served as Governor of Massachusetts.

One can only wonder what this great patriot would say to the likes of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, John Murtha, Hillary Clinton, and the rest of the “Yeah the surge is working but we need to leave now” Democrats. Well, wonder no more. It seems that our great patriotic founding fathers had to face their own version of today’s Democrats. Here’s what Samuel Adams had to say to them:

“If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”

I can just hear the squealing now from the Left should some great patriot of today say something of the same. Actually, I would welcome that sound.

Salt and Light

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

I know, real original title for a post, huh?

The purpose, as you already know, of this blog is to be “salt and light” and “to bring political and moral clarity into the fog of political correctness.”

I was introduced last night through Jackie Threadgill to a blogger named Felicia Benamon. I had heard of her before but had not read a lot of her work. My loss!

Felicia has written an excellent editorial titled “Promoting Perverse Behavior as Normal.” Felicia warns “Christians should be watchful and alert to what is going on today. Do not become tantalized by the secular devices that try to grab our attention.” She ends with reminding us we need to be salt and light. I like that!

Anyway I’m including Felicia’s blog as part of my blog roll and I encourage you to spread the word. This is the type of message we want to get out; after all, we’re all in this together!

Two Great Websites

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

I want to share two outstanding websites with you that are going to become permanent links to “Salt and Light.” The first you’re going to recognize and the second you will rejoice over.

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay has an excellent blog titled, you guessed it, Tom Delay.com. If you love Congressman DeLay’s wit as House Majority Leader, you going to really enjoy him as a blogger. I had the honor of meeting him and then listening to his speech at this year’s NFRA Ronald Reagan Awards Banquet in St. Louis (see what you missed!). I am also in the middle of reading his fine book (which he personally signed!) and it is a page turner. Just hit the image below to get your copy.

No Retreat, No Surrender

The second website that will have you rejoicing is Vets for Freedom. Thanks to my most devoted reader Carolyn for providing me with their link. I’m not going to comment on their website other than to say it’s about time and we all need to get behind these wonderful vets. Please visit their website by hitting the link below.

Pass the word to your family and friends about these two great websites by sending them to my blog! Thanks for all you do and for being Salt and Light.

Oh Mama Obama

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

Have you ever wondered why the Democrats have a donkey as their mascot? Well, it’s not officially their mascot, but since the days of Andy Jackson, they’ve shown an affinity for the beast of burden. It seems that Old Hickory’s stubbornness caused some to think of him as a jack*** and he actually liked the representation. The whole history of this befitting symbol can be found at The Democratic Party website. (The only thing of substance on their website)

We used to have a saying that if someone had done or said something stupid that they had their donkey ears on. Now I know Senator Barack Obama is sensitive about his ears, but he’s definitely wearing a pair since yesterday. In case you missed it, here’s a clip of his latest braying:

Isn’t that just special?! The only thing our US troops have been doing in Afghanistan since October 2001 is “just air-raiding villages and killing civilians.” Hmmm…what do you actually say to something like this? Obviously, the young Senator’s inexperience in military affairs is showing, but the most revealing thing is his political calculation. If he was such a man of character as his supporters are trying to portray him, well he would have come out today and immediately apologized for his incredibly stupid remark. And I’m saying that is exactly how he should have said it.

This ridiculous comment already has dust on it and now Mitt Romney’s campaign (not him actually, some mouthpiece) has come out with a statement. When will these silly politicians learn to immediately fess up when they mess up instead of being surrounded by handlers trying to figure out the best way to deal with something. Hey Senator Obama! There’s only a couple of explanations for this type of statement from you; you either believe what you said or you made a terrible mistake but you’re not willing to come out and admit it. Well presidential wannabe, either is unacceptable. You leave that egg on your face much longer and it’s gonna dry in place.

I’m surprised that Hillary or John Edwards didn’t pounce on this, but since they’re both beholden to the Looney Left, they’re both probably huddled with their handlers trying to figure out the best way to deal with this. I tell you, politics is in a sad state of affairs right now.

Well, let’s just see how this all plays out and I’ll comment on more of the presidential poppycock later. I will be appearing tomorrow on Greg Allen’s The Right Balance from 9:50 -10:00 am Central Time. Go to Greg’s website to listen to it live or for replay times.

Have a great night and be blessed!

Checking In

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Wow! What a couple of weeks since my last post. I’ll try real hard to capture all that has happened but I’m sure I’ll miss something.

First and absolutely foremost is a great report about our youth camp. Last night at Midway Baptist Church in Gulf Breeze, FL (my home church), we had 10 teenagers baptized as a demonstration of their new lives in Christ. I’m not sure of the total number of teens at camp making professions of Christ, but if it were just these ten that would be phenomenal. God worked powerfully and camp was a huge success. I’m already looking forward to next year and I’ve already told our youth pastor I’m going to work real hard to clear my calendar so I don’t have to leave on Thursday night. That was hard, but it was still very rewarding as 3 of the 10 teens were boys from my cabin. I want to take a moment to thank Andrew Bosak, my cabin assistant, who was such a great example of what a godly young man looks like. He did an outstanding job, even having just recovered from shoulder surgery for a broken collar bone.

Next on the agenda was the NFRA convention in St. Louis; what a great time! Now if the old cliche ideas of convention happenings come to mind, please erase them. There was real work being done and many lasting friendships made. Fred Thompson won the straw poll and most interesting is that after the first ballot of endorsing delegates, only Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter were left standing. Each candidate required 15% of the vote to remain on the subsequent ballots. Fred Thompson was the leader, followed by Duncan Hunter and I believe Mitt Romney came in third but still shy of the minimum 15% of votes cast. In a very telling note and a commendation of the NFRA and its desire to nominate only real conservatives, John McCain received none of the 120-some votes and Rudy Guiliani received only one. So much for the “leaders” of the Republican field. After 7 ballots casted, neither Thompson or Hunter gained the required two-thirds vote and so no endorsement was released.

Duncan Hunter’s performance among the NFRA speaks well of his conservative credentials. I personally think that a Fred Thompson/Mike Huckabee ticket would be very strong, with Duncan Hunter as Secretary of Defense. I would also like to see Newt Gingrich come aboard as Secretary of State. Now that would be a strong administration to face the global war on terror.

A strong set of resolutions was passed by the convention and I want to thank Rod Martin for giving me the privilege of sitting on the Resolutions Committee. If a link of the resolutions isn’t provided by the national website in the near future, I’ll scan my copies and provide one here.

Speaking of the NFRA convention, if you are not already a member of your local chapter, please join! If you don’t have a chapter, please consider beginning one. If you’re interested, visit the website link above and get involved. I know many of you are disappointed in the candidates we’ve had and many of the current GOP frontrunners. If this is you then do something about it and it means putting your money where you mouth is. I would also encourage you to join The Vanguard.org, which is the antidote to MoveON.org and this also will require you to give up some of your running around money for a bit, but it is well worth it. If you are in NW Florida, please contact me and I will get you signed up immediately.

I’ll get busy and start blogging on the presidential campaign in the next day or two. Talk to ya later!
