Useful White Idiots
Thursday, May 29th, 2008Clever title, huh?
I wish I could take credit for it, but my brother in Christ Erik Rush has already beat me to it in his latest and brilliant World Net Daily piece of the same title.
You’re going to want to send “Useful White Idiots” to all your Obama-swooning white friends and family to read. Tell them to get a dictionary handy, Erik may have used some big words for them.
And if they have a hard time translating the last two sentences, it’s his polite way of telling us to “grow a pair.”
Call Your Senators!
Wednesday, May 21st, 2008The good folks at NumbersUSA have sent out an emergency phone call alert and every concerned citizen needs to call so we can have another Senate switch board meltdown. The following is from the NumbersUSA alert:
Friends,
Today is the day. If you only do one thing this year to stop illegal immigration, call your Senators TODAY. Your phone call could be the one that stops the amnesty.
Phone your Senators today and tell them to oppose any immigration provisions in the Iraq Supplemental spending bill.
202-224-3121
In a somewhat unexpected move, the Senate began debate on the Iraq Supplemental Spending bill late in the day on Tuesday. As I write this, the Senate is still in general debate on the Iraq Supplemental (which is actually more like a mini omnibus bill). Senator Byrd (D-WV) filed three substitution amendments Monday night to H.R. 2642 (to replace all the House language in three parts). This is a similar tactic the House used during debate on their version of the Iraq supplemental bill last week: divide the bill in three to give cover to the different party constituencies. The AgJOBS language is in the first amendment (SA 4786). The Senate is not likely to get through general debate tonight, but could make it to the first amendment sometime tomorrow.
In short, this means the AgJOBS amnesty could come up for debate as early as Wednesday morning.
At this point, it is best not to get bogged down in the legislative details (because things are changing rapidly and many procedural moves are occurring). Instead, we are recommending you keep your message simple and to the point. Simply state something like the following:
”My name is _______. I’m calling from _________ to ask the Senator to oppose any immigration increases in the Iraq Supplemental including so-called emergency agricultural workers, H-2B unskilled workers, and employment-based permanent workers. I oppose amnesty and illegal immigration and expect the Senator to vote against all immigration increases.”
If you want to get specific, see the talking points below. But the most important need now is to flood Senate offices with phones calls opposing the AgJOBS amnesty and all other immigration increases in the Iraq Supplemental Spending bill.
Please go to your Action Board immediately and send the faxes and make the phone calls we’ve posted on your Action Buffet .
BACKGROUND AND DETAILS
The Senate Appropriations Committee voted 17-12 to attach an amnesty to the Iraq supplemental spending bill. The amendment that passed provides a 5-year visa for up to 1.35 million illegal agricultural workers—but the cap of 1.35 million does not include spouses and children, who would bring the total amnesty to a total of about 3 million.
If we are going to have comprehensive immigration then let’s have an open debate before the American people, and if amnesty has to be part of the package, then Congress needs to have the courage to come out and call it that as part of the open debate.
Regardless your feelings about amnesty, do not allow the cowards in the upper house to play politics with troop support legislation. This type of pathetic political posturing and ploy need not be happening with their important responsibility of supporting our marvelous troops.
Please call today, you will have to call twice, and please be courteous and thank the Senate staffer before you hang up.
To the phones!
Why You Should Vote for John McCain, Vol. 1
Monday, May 19th, 2008I probably just lost about 10% of my readership with this title and I can only imagine the hateful and vitriolic emails I’m going to receive, but I’m a realist.
I’m going to be doing this as series over the course of this election because so much is at stake. Now I’ve received a number of emails exhorting me to vote for Alan Keyes, Bob Barr, or any other independent candidate. News flash! It will never work.
If every hardcore traditional evangelical voted for another candidate, said candidate would receive around 35 million votes. Let’s say I’ve underestimated the number of hardcore traditional evangelicals by 25%; you would still have less than 45 million votes. John Kerry received 48.3% of the popular vote with a final tally of 59,028,109 votes. You can expect Barack Obama to receive at least that many votes.
Crossover votes from Hillary Clinton supporters, if they actually cross over, will go to John McCain, but they will not number enough to make a difference for McCain. Hillary has received over 17 million votes and even if half voted for McCain he would lose by a landslide. Obviously Hillary supporters would never vote for a candidate that a hardcore traditional evangelical would support.
What about teaching the Republican Party a lesson and letting Obama win? Do you know what’s at stake in our country? With McCain we have a chance of winning some conservative battles; with either Hillary or Obama we have zero. Notwithstanding a brokered Republican National Convention, John McCain is the Republican Party candidate.
This will be the gist of my series as time goes on; helping all of you understand what is at stake and what it means to make a “protest” vote or not vote at all.
To start the ball rolling I ask that you read my good friend and brother-in-Christ JB Williams’ latest column at the New Media Journal titled, “Purchasing Democratic Socialism in America” which will help build the foundation of what I pray will be an informative resource for all of you to make your decision based on facts and not purely emotions.
Please stay tuned!
P.S. I’ve added JB’s website to my blogroll…I can’t believe I hadn’t already!
Meet Erik Rush
Thursday, May 15th, 2008I want to introduce all my Salt and Light readers to Erik Rush, a bold brother-in-Christ who lives out loud the “I will fear no evil” of Psalm 23. He is a fine man and has been taking on Jeremiah Wright before it was fashionable to do so.
Erik has written an excellent expository titled “Black Liberation Theology: The Enemy Within” on the New Media Journal. You’re going to want to read this and pass it on to everyone in your address book. And be sure to send it to all the Obama supporters you know.
I would love to hear Tim Russert or Bill O’Reilly for that matter (if Obama appears on his show) ask Obama is he adheres to Black Liberation Theology and if not, why did he sit under its teaching for twenty years.
I encourage you to drop by Erik’s website and sign up for his weekly bulletin. I’ve added Erik to our blog roll, so please give him a visit.
Pentagon Memorial Fund
Tuesday, May 6th, 2008It may seem like I hit your wallets a lot, but this is a love offering.
My good friend Mark Levin lost a dear friend on the plane that struck the Pentagon; most of you probably remember her…Barbara Olson.
She was a brilliant lawyer and analyst and a solid conservative. America truly lost a great American that day.
Mark and other friends of Barbara Olson have established the Pentagon Memorial Fund.
To all of you on my email list number over one hundred and all you have to do is give one dollar and ask five of your friends to give one dollar, and those friends ask five friends to give one dollar, and each of those ask five more friends. This simple law of mulitiplication enacted four times would bring over $62,000 to this wonderful memorial.
Click here to make your donation today and thank you so much.
National Military Appreciation Month
Tuesday, May 6th, 2008May is the National Military Appreciation Month and the USO every year conducts a wonderful way to give back to the troops. Quoting their website:
“Due to heightened security, the military no longer accepts letters and packages marked for delivery to “Any Service Member.” Through the Operation USO Care Package program, you can sponsor a care package for $25 and send a personal message of support and thanks to a service member. Care packages include requested items such as prepaid international phone cards, sunscreen, snacks, travel size toiletries and a personal message of support.”
I know times are tough for many economically, so if you cannot sponsor a service member by yourself, you could possibly get four other friends to sponsor a troop together. You get to write a personal note to the service member so all five names can go on the message.
I’ve been sending a care package every year since 2002 and its great knowing you can reach and touch one of our fine military service members with a personal note.
God bless and thanks in advance!
Click here to sponsor a care package today!
Senator Socialism
Thursday, May 1st, 2008All right you Obama supporters and I know you’re out there. Read about Senator Obama Global Poverty Act at the Center for Individual Freedom and please explain to me why I should vote for this guy?
If you are not familiar with the Center for Individual Freedom, I encourage to get on their email list and through some latte money their way once in awhile.
I’ve added them to our Citizen Action link; these folks do great work.
Me on The Talon
Thursday, May 1st, 2008Well my first column on the new Eagles Up! blog called The Talon is up and I am honored to be in the company of such a great and diverse group of writers. Please visit this blog and post it to your favorites, and as always, thanks in advance for spreading the word.
Eddie in the News
Monday, April 28th, 2008The Tuscaloosa News has done a very nice article about Eddie.
The article is titled, “Daleville soldier’s writings impacted thousands,” and I want to thank Jane Self for being so kind, considerate of my family’s feelings, and for writing such a nice tribute about Eddie.
I encourage you to read more of Jane’s work of tribute to the sacrifice the great state of Alabama has made. Please visit “Fallen Warriors.”
Talon Blog
Sunday, April 27th, 2008Tomorrow is the first day of a new blog called Talon from the Eagles Up! website. Talon hopes to become a daily “must read” similar to Town Hall and American Thinker.
Yours truly has been given the distinct honor and privilege of writing for them every Thursday. Colonel (Ret) Harry Riley, founder of Eagles Up!, has become a close friend and is a dear brother-in-Christ whom Karen and I had the pleasure of meeting last December.
Please be sure to visit Talon every day and let everyone in your address book know about us.
Beyond Expelled
Sunday, April 27th, 2008Yesterday I wrote about the movie “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” and I want to encourage all of you to attend.
For those of you who are local to Northwest Florida I want to invite you to attend what promises to be an amazingly entertaining, thought-provoking, and informative evening on Thursday night, May 8 at 6:30. Take a look at the Beyond Expelled Flyer
I had the great pleasure of interviewing, along with Ken Walsh and Elaine Tucker of NewsTalk 1260, Nancy Pearcy last Friday morning and Mrs. Pearcy is a very engaging speaker and brilliant writer. Mrs. Pearcy has written many books and her latest is Total Truth: Liberating Christianity from its Cultural Captivity. Thanks to Earl Smith and all the wonderful people at Westminister Presbyterian Church in Fort Walton Beach for sponsoring this fine event.
Although I will not be able to attend because I will be out of town to watch my youngest daughter graduate college Friday morning, I highly encourage everyone in the Panhandle to make an attempt to attend. This is ideal for youth groups, men’s and women’s groups, college students, and civic organizations. Let’s pack out the Mattie Kelly Arts Center and make sure you bring many of your unchurched friends.
For those of you who would like to spread the word about this event, Westminister Presbyterian Church has provided bulletin inserts that you can download and print as well as a powerpoint slide to show up on your screen if you use that type of media. I’ve provided links to both.
I’ll be looking forward to reports here at Salt and Light of how great a success this event was.

Expelled the Movie
Saturday, April 26th, 2008I took my wife to the matinee! It’s pretty sad; it’s been years since I took her to the movies. We went and saw Ben Stein’s “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed.”
The movie is very well put together with typical Ben Stein humor and yet the movie is riveting. Ben does an excellent job in presenting the evidence of the wall of separation between Darwinists and proponents of Intelligent Design.
Here is an extended trailer/intro from Ben about his movie. Please go see it and pass the word:
Geography Google Style
Friday, April 25th, 2008It seems that Google has given into Arab pressure and took it upon themselves to rename the Persian Gulf the Arabian Gulf on its Google Earth website. Below is a picture from Google Earth; I’m not sure how well you can see it, but history is being rewritten:
Amil Imani, a brilliant columnist and featured writer for The New Media Journal just sent out an email telling about this outrage. Please read Amil’s “Google Must Be Held To Account” and then voice your displeasure with Google Earth. Right now if you Google “David Jeffers” this blog comes up number one. We’ll see how long that lasts!

Preparation or Anesthetization
Saturday, April 19th, 2008My dear friend Dino Minutillo has published his first article and it’s a good one! Please check out “Nuclear Attack on Washington DC: Preparation or Anesthetization” at the New Media Journal and pass the word!
Time Magazine’s Latest Outrage
Thursday, April 17th, 2008Well the leftie magazine Time is at it again. Last year instead of selecting our Great American General David Petraeus as “Man of the Year” they selected Russia’s tyrant Vladimir Putin.
Get a load of the latest slap in the face to our military and our veterans:
That’s right, that is a doctored picture of the most famous image of World War II, our Marines on Iwo Jima. But instead of planting the United States flag, Time Magazine has changed the image to show our brilliantly brave Marines planting a tree.
What on earth could ever possess Time Magazine to do this? Good question! In an article titled “Iwo Jima Veterans Blast Time’s ‘Special Environmental Issue’ Cover” , Jeff Poor quotes Time managing editor Richard Stengel in an MSNBC interview yesterday offering up this ridiculously lame excuse:
“One of the things we do in the story is we say there needs to be an effort along the lines of preparing for World War II to combat global warming and climate change.”
Yes, that’s right…Time Magazine is equating global warming with World War II.
My contempt for Time Magazine defies words.
Now I’m sure many of you will want to join me in respectively voicing my displeasure to Time Magazine. Here is their contact information and of course the best way to voice your displeasure it to cancel your subscription if you have one.

Troop Surge in Congress?
Wednesday, April 16th, 2008Many conservatives have refused to give money to the Republican National Committee, the National Republican Congressional Committee, and the National Republican Senate Committee because of their abandoning our conservative principles.
Many conservatives have vowed to support only strong conservative candidates, not only in their congressional districts but also around the country.
Okay conservatives…time to pull out your wallets.
There are some excellent congressional candidates who have formed a new coalition and they are worthy of our attention, support, and dollars. They all have one thing in common; they are all Iraqi War Veterans. I for one will be supporting Lt. Col. William Russell who is running to unseat John Murtha.
You can read more about this at Jim Seminara’s Human Events article.
Tax Man
Tuesday, April 15th, 2008Ah, I made it through another April 15th, my taxes are all paid up!
Well, not exactly. You see you paid your taxes for last year. Your tax bill for 2008 is still owed and in fact tax freedom day doesn’t come until April 23, 2008, which is actually two days earlier than last year. Many people will be getting a tax return this year and they rejoice. In fact the average tax return in 2005 (latest stats available from the IRS) was $2,287.
Some of you may be thinking, “WOW, I wish I could get a return like that!”
Here’s the problem with that; for that average American it means you lost $190.58 per month! It also means the government used your money interest free. Try owing the IRS $2287 for a whole year and see how much you owe once you finally pay the bill.
Had you put that $190 a month in the bank you would have earned $37 in interest (at 3%).
What if you owed that money to the IRS and didn’t pay your tax bill for 60 days, what would happen?
If you owed $2287 and you did not pay your bill for 60 days, you would now owe the IRS $2521. That’s right, a whopping $234 in late filing penalties.
The quickest way to start a tax revolution in America is to give Americans their full gross income and make them write out federal, state, and local tax checks every month. When you actually have to deduct that money from your balance every month, then you really realize what you’re losing. But the government knows if it can deduct it before you see it, well, most Americans are just glad to receive a paycheck.
I want to share two diametrically opposed viewpoints on taxes. The first one is from the Democratic Party’s 20th Century hero; the second is from the Republican Party’s 20th Century hero:
“Taxes, after all, are dues that we pay for the privileges of membership in an organized society.” ~Franklin D. Roosevelt
“The taxpayer - that’s someone who works for the federal government but doesn’t have to take the civil service examination.” ~Ronald Reagan
Did you see the difference? To FDR we are privileged to live “in an organized society” as opposed to being endowed “by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Reagan, on the other hand, believed that while some taxes were necessary, much of it made us beholden to the government. Here are three more classic quotes from Reagan:
Government always finds a need for whatever money it gets.
Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.
Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
In the immortal words of Hank Hill, “I miss votin’ for that man.”
Okay, here’s a video to take us out of here. Legend has it that George Harrison wrote this song after he realized how much money he was paying in taxes.
Obliging Obama
Monday, April 14th, 2008Check out this from the Drudge Report:
AP CHAIRMAN APOLOGIZES FOR CALLING OSAMA ‘OBAMA’ — TO HIS OBAMA’S FACE
Mon APR 14 2007 14:53:11 ET
Exchange between Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill) and William Dean Singleton, chairman of the board of the ASSOCIATED PRESS at the AP annual meeting in Washington DC:
Singleton: Obama bin Laden is still at large.
Obama: I think that was Osama bin Laden. (audience laughter, delayed applause)
Singleton: If I did that, I’m so sorry.
Obama: No, no, no. this is part of the exercise that I’ve been going through over the last 15 months, which is why it’s pretty impressive that I’m still standing. (applause)

Developing…
Did you catch that?
The humility of Senator Obama is, well, impressive!
Open Letter to Fellow Conservatives! Part 2
Sunday, April 13th, 2008Here is the conclusion of JB Williams open letter to conservatives. You can see it in its entirety at the New Media Journal.
Can any conservative look at this chart and honestly make the claim that there is NO significant difference between these three candidates? Is the heated claim that McCain is just as evil as his opponents true? Is McCain “worse” than Clinton or Obama for America on the basis of what the three have worked to advance in the past?
As you can see, Barack Obama holds only ONE semi-conservative position out of 20 issues, and he shares that position with both Clinton and McCain. As an inexperienced freshman senator, he has had neither the time or power to advance the other nineteen liberal ideas represented on this chart and that is why he is running for President, where he would have the power to advance these positions.
Hillary Clinton holds only TWO semi-conservative positions out of the twenty, one of them shared with both Obama and McCain. She too seeks the power of the Oval Office where she can advance the other eighteen liberal ideas visible in her record.
John McCain shares common ground with Clinton and Obama on only FIVE of the twenty issues, one of them a “conservative” position. McCain has chosen common ground with Democrats on only FOUR of the twenty issues, and here are those four issues.
1) Gay Rights - All three candidates support Same-Sex Unions. None of the three support re-defining “marriage” to include homosexual relationships.
2) Restrictive Energy Policy - All three believe in the Global Warming hoax and all three support dealing with it by reducing American consumption of oil. But only McCain reaches beyond this answer to supporting further oil exploration and refining capacity as well. So, there is a difference even here.
3) Illegal Immigration - McCain and Bush are responsible for much of today’s division within the Republican Party due to their “anti-enforcement” positions of the past and their quest to legalize illegal aliens already living in America. But both Clinton and Obama oppose the idea of U.S. national sovereignty and borders altogether. So again, we can find significant differences between them if we care to deal in reality. Yet no matter who is elected, at some point in the near future, some form of Amnesty for those already here is going to pass into law. Count on it… The debate is over what happens next?
4) Restricted Campaign Funding - This one is a funny topic. Few Americans including conservatives, believe that their campaign process is clean and fair. Few believe that their vote means as much as George Soros’ billions or the money from China and other enemy states that seems to find its way into American campaign coffers. Yet many conservatives feel that any effort to curb these harmful practices is some kind of infringement upon First Amendment rights of free political speech. I opposed McCain-Feingold and we have already seen why, as a result of how poorly that legislation was conceived. But is there really any doubt that we must find a way to get funny money out of our political system? Some form of campaign finance reform is required to accomplish that. What kind of reform do you think Clinton and Obama have in mind? That only labor unions can donate to political campaigns maybe?
On the other sixteen issues, John McCain has a conservative record as solid as almost any conservative in modern political history.
So, is there really NO discernable difference between these three candidates? Are conservatives really prepared to “sit it out” or jump to a 3rd party protest vote because they disagree with McCain on four of twenty issues, and help elect Clinton or Obama who they disagree with on nineteen of twenty?
I am not a fan of John McCain. I’m no fan of any career politician. I worked hard to advance a more conservative candidate, just as most if not all of you did.
I’m angry too, and on some days, I’d like to take my football and go home as well. But that’s called a “forfeit.” If I pull my team from the field in protest, convinced that I can’t win the game no matter what, then I am forfeiting the game and conceding the win to my opponent without even making any effort to defeat them. I will not forfeit my country or my conservative agenda for anyone, no matter how angry I get.
This is NOT the losing thought pattern of any true conservative I have ever known. I have never known a true conservative unwilling to fight, nor have I ever known a true conservative that believed intentionally losing was some brave new form of winning.
I do NOT want to cast a vote for John McCain in November for my own reasons. But I have NO hesitation whatsoever, stepping into the voting booth and casting a vote against the two RED agendas diagrammed above. Show me how to do that without having to vote for McCain and I’ll be there. But if McCain is the only means of keeping the Clinton-Obama RED agenda out of the Oval Office come November, you can bet your last dollar I will cast that vote.
If conservatives don’t lay their temper tantrums aside and think clearly, they can lose this election as well as this nation. They already lost control of their party and unless they have the guts to cut their losses until they can take it back, they will never regain control of anything.
Any doubts about any of this?
Thanks for listening! If you agree, spread it far and wide!
