Hi Dave- I'm so glad you spoke about this. I have written about Oprah (among others) in the past. I haven't watched her for years, and the main reason is because while she has claimed to be a Christian in the past- she has always devoted shows to "spiritual leaders" who's messages have been contrary and opposite to Biblical beliefs, and many times I'd hear her agree with these spiritual people as to the "many paths" to heaven. It is vitally important to get this out- because she is so incredibly popular. Not just with her TV show, but her magazine, her radio show and the fact that she is looking into having her own network as well. I don't normally do this, but for more info, anyone can read one of the posts I wrote a month ago on my blog, No Apologies- http://journals.aol.com/lifesabench6/Noappologies-Biblicalperspect/entries/2008/02/06/i-am-not-ever-going-to-compromise/2765 Among others who are compromising their faith- It mentions her connections with Choprah, Tolle and with Marianne Williamson (A Course in Miracles) and of course her support, endorsement and campaigning for Barak Obama. Thank you Dave for talking about this. This woman is deceived, and spreading her new age and demonic teachers by leaps and bounds- and even into the "messianic" campaign of Obama. God Bless!!
Good for you Dave for pointing out more of the truth! I stopped watching Oprah years ago for just the reasons you've cited. The New Age movement is everywhere today. I know because I used to be very involved in those kind of beliefs before I was born again. And they are beliefs whether Oprah likes it or not. She wants to base her spirituality on a feeling but she has to believe in that feeling in order to accept it as truth. I have many times considered writing to her because my heart pours out to her blindness. I have often prayed for her and I hope that we all continue to do so. She is obviously a powerful influence and wouldn't it be wonderful if she saw the light of Jesus Christ!

First I'd like to say that I believe Oprah has an honest desire to do good and that she does genuinely wish to be on the path to truth. I do think that she wants to believe that God will embrace all as His children, regardless of what they believe or what their faith is.

I want to believe that too, that His forgiveness is such that He will embrace all who want His forgiveness, whether that be now while one is on earth, or after one dies and realizes the truth and the horror of their mistakes. But I can't determine how true that is because only God knows and only God knows the condition a soul is in (full knowledge, personal will, etc.), so I have decided to not dwell on that and leave it to God, His wisdom, His forgiveness and His love. We can never have full comprehension of God's will and righteousness, only God knows, therefore I cannot be foolish with my time by trying to figure out who will be damned and who will not.

Years ago I started getting a twinge that something just wasn't right with the information that Oprah was projecting onto her viewers. Marianne Williamson and Gary Zukav were two that I remember that first started ringing warning bells for me, but I tried to be open to what Oprah was presenting while at the same time trying to stay true to God and be mindful of what Jesus warned us against.

Fast forward to a year or so ago when she had "The Secret" crew on stage, and I really wanted to embrace what they "preached". What they had to say, what the book and DVD had to say, appealed to me, although again I had alarm bells jingling inside. I really, really wanted to believe that all that was wrong in my life was due to me and my behavior and my beliefs. I was this close to diving in head first, but I had a twinge. So I prayed openly and honestly to God, I told Him I wanted to accept this new way of thinking, that the power to change my life and achieve the things I wanted to achieve was in me, but more than that I really wanted to know the truth, I wanted to be with Him and on the path of His will.

Within two days of thoughtful prayer, I knew without a doubt that all those teachings from the new age guests that Oprah has presented are all about *my will*, *my desire*, *my power*, *my self healing*, *my control of my reality* which tanslates to *I am god*...it's all about believing and willing ourselves to be gods rather than submitting ourselves to the one true God and His will, our creator and our Saviour. Which then evolves to we don't need Jesus to save us from our sins, because we have the power to do that for ourselves. And then...we don't need saving from anything...because we are who we are and all is good and all is love.

The world today so wants to embrace relativism rather than God's will for us. The world wants to believe that God's law is outdated, or mythology, or man made, or is a punishing law, that the rules are there to suffocate us and reject us or each other and have us deprived, rather than believe or accept that God's will for us is that we allow ourselves to be protected from harm, that His rules are protection and not punishment. That His rules are not mean-spirited, they are out of love for us.

I'm concerned for Oprah because I do believe she has great love that she wants to share and do what she can to help emotional and spiritual wounds be healed. All we can do is offer her to God. He knows her heart, He knows her intimately, better than any person. He is a kind and patient God, we need to pray for her that He blesses her with wisdom and with strength. I think if she had full realization, she will have the strength to overcome this. That would be a truly wonderous thing, to have a powerful woman like Oprah stand before millions and acknowledge her mistake.

The Bible tells us the devil can appear as an angel of light (which means he can fool us into thinking that he is not evil, that he is full of love and goodness and a soldier of God), that we are to be watchful at all times and not be fooled by anyone who says anything contrary to His word--because that is the real test--that nothing be contrary to what He has given us in his word. I believe Oprah's forgotten that because she has presented and argued for many ideas that are contrary to God's word.

I pray that Oprah be given the desire to know God and the strength to accept that all power lies with God, that all good things she's been blessed with have come from His holy will and His power, and not her own power. She may have cooperated with His will, but all glory and honor is His, not hers. And I pray that He will bless her with knowledge and wisdom and strength. She is a beloved child of God, she needs our prayers.

She embraces the most notorious and seductive "Biblical" excuse for sin: "Don't judge, lest you be judged." I remember reading that she was craftily putting the blame on Christians for being intolerant of abortion. "That's not love."

It seems experiments with eastern mysticism make you feel better, but at the expense of blinding you to God's truth. You can also become insane and violent, as the purest form of yoga does when demons enter people. John Lennon of the Beatles almost went insane due to his transcendental meditation and drug abuse. :(

I've never seen Oprah on TV, but her growing influence gives me yet another reason to be alarmed about the present age. We desperately need people of influence who will change the tide away from postmodern thinking! And we need to pray for her to understand that God's jealousy does not mean He is a petty control-freak!

I know we should pray for people like Oprah. It's the right response to someone who is so lost that only the prayer of the righteous asking for God's mercy can accomplish it. Having said that, I strongly suggested many years ago that my wife not be taken in by this arrogant, smug know it all who was being worshipped and adored by all legions of silly 50'ish white women who obviously hung on her every word in a way christians should hang on every word that proceeds out of God's holy word. She's dangerous because she's so far off base spiritually speaking, that I don't know where to begin. She's obviously a tool of satan as she knows the power she has over these herds of adoring fans and uses it to the max. I totally agree with you Dave when you ask men to command their wives not to watch her demonic entertainment. Since women are more emotional than men, they're not able to grasp that what they are watching and hearing may be spiritual, but not of God's Spirit. The time has arrived when many in the church will not endure sound doctrine, but have heaped to themselves, teachers, having itching ears and have turned from the truth, unto fables. The world is doomed without Christ and what are many church ladies doing? Sitting at Oprah's feet as disciples and absorbing damnable teachings and support the same by buying her books and supporting her website and TV program and all the other junk she peddles. If they searched the scriptures with their husbands, they might feel very differently about this, this personality.
